Peach and Strawberry Smoothie (Vegan, Gluten-free, Grain-free option, Nut-free option, Soya-free option)

A delicious summery smoothie, that’s sweet, fruity, creamy, and packed with good things. Ideal for when strawberries and peaches are in season and at their sweet and juicy best.

Smoothies are such a great way to pack in the vitamins, especially in the Summer heat when you don’t want anything too heavy. Plus they are best with fruit that is slightly overripe, so if you’ve got a fruit that’s a bit bruised, or some berries left in the punnet that are slightly squished or mangled, it’s a great way to make sure that nothing goes to waste.

Peach and strawberry is one of my favourite combinations, and this is the perfect time of year in the UK to make the most of these glorious fruits. This recipe has been my breakfast almost every day for the past couple of weeks and it still feels like a treat.

How to make peach and strawberry smoothie

Now you may be wondering why I am trying to explain how to make a smoothie, when it’s really just a case of bunging everything into a blender. And this is true. However, there are a few little extras I like to add to take my smoothie to the next level.

Banana is an ideal base for a smoothie as it adds a wonderful creaminess – if you were only to use peaches and strawberries the result would be quite watery and lacking in the level of decadence I like in my smoothie. I also add a bit of non-dairy yogurt (I use coconut but you can use whatever you prefer), for a bit more creaminess and richness, and for a bit of probiotic goodness.

Whatever else I put in my smoothie, I always add flax seeds. These are really inexpensive and a great source of omega-3 fatty acids. If your blender isn’t up to much you can buy ground flax seeds, but I add whole ones which are easily broken down with a high-speed blender. You can also use chia seeds which have similarly excellent properties.

A spoonful of almond butter is optional, but a really delicious addition. As well as adding a bit of protein, almond butter contains high levels of calcium, potassium and iron, and is a good source of unsaturated fat, which will help keep you full. A handful of oats is another optional addition, which can help provide a bit more substance for a satisfying and sustaining breakfast.

You’ll need about 200–250ml of liquid, and you have a few options here. You can just use water, or any non-dairy milk. I often use about 150ml non-dairy milk and top it up with water. Another great option is to use coconut water – if I’m using coconut cream for a recipe, I’ll keep the left-over liquid from the can in the fridge and pop it in my smoothie the next morning.

Finally to the stars of the show; peaches and strawberries. The key is to make sure they are really ripe – otherwise you’ll never get the divine, fruity flavour that is the whole point of a smoothie. You can use frozen strawberries if you can’t get your hands on fresh or it’s out of season. Keep the skin on the peach but remove the stone, and hull the strawberries (the tough pale green tops often don’t whizz), and bung them with all of the other ingredients in your blender and blitz until smooth and dreamy.

Peach And Strawberry Smoothie

  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 ripe peach
  • 6–7 strawberries, hulled (fresh or frozen)
  • 3 tbsp non-dairy yogurt (I use coconut)
  • 1 tbsp flax seeds (or chia seeds)
  • 1 tbsp almond butter (optional or use sunbutter for nut-free)
  • a small handful of oats (optional – omit for grain-free)
  • 200–250ml (3/4 – 1 cup) non-dairy milk / water / coconut water


  1. Put all of the ingredients in a blender and whizz until smooth. Add a little more liquid if your smoothie looks a little thick, and whizz again until you have your desired consistency. Makes roughly 500ml (2 cups).


*In place of the banana you could use half an avocado for a similar creaminess, although it tends to make a much thicker smoothie.

*Instead of peach you could use nectarines or plums.

*Switch up the berries – blueberries are delicious, or you could use mixed berries.
